Tears For Trinidad and Tobago : Blood of Crime for the Caribbean

One Caribbean Nation.
Caribbean Flags

Trinidad and Tobago, known as the: “ Twin Island State” is facing the real possibility of becoming a crime infested society. We are afraid that a well-armed and violently disposed group of citizens, is at the forefront , of a lawless attempt, to cripple and eventually annihilate , a people who have never a “met a stranger” collective personality.

It is chilling and certainly not: “Trini to the Bone”, to murder seven hundred of our brothers and sisters in 2022. It makes a mockery of the tireless work done by those who have contributed to building a republic, that has greatly contributed to the region, and the world.

The Mahogany Coconut Group, had its birth, by the efforts of several Caribbean citizens, both at home and in the Diaspora; among this group was and remains , Trinidadians  therefore to pen this column, comes with a great degree of sadness and concern.  We have always endeavored  to highlight both the negatives and positives within the region as homogenous developments. We do not believe that the senseless murder of one citizen in any of our countries is any different from one hundred in another.

As far as we are concerned, when the numbers are counted the result remains the same: Caribbean bodies in body bags and a trail of perpetually grieving families; fatherless children; the sudden death of dreams and a dark cloud that envelops the entire region.

We cannot create a New Caribbean Nation State if we allow this carnage to continue anywhere and to any degree; we cannot replace our blue ocean waters with the blood of our youth.

While we commenced this commentary by referencing T and T, we urge all Caribbean governments, to invest more resources in modern crime fighting tools and employ the necessary manpower to combat and ultimately reduce and or eliminate crime in our region, which we often call a Zone of Peace.

It is so sad but Trinidad is not the only place suffering. Crime has exploded since Covid and usually when US crime goes up the same happens in the West Indies. The governments need to stay tough and crime continue the good fight.
