Caribbean-American Heritage Month

Caribbean-American Heritage Month Conservative estimates put the number of Caribbean people living in the United States in excess of six million. However there is some evidence that this number is declining. June is declared by presidential acclamation, as Caribbean –American Heritage Month. During this period, in some states, one island is highlighted and there are cultural activities that promote the presence of its citizens. While we pour no cold water on how these events are organized, we believe that more should be done to give the Caribbean a bigger focus. However, we realize that many Caribbean citizens in America have limited time to immerse themselves in their communities. Working and living in a foreign land have never been easy and our communities and culture are often unfortunate victims. The Caribbean Is One Nation.                                                                                     Thank You Chanderpaul     We are not going to hammer the West Indies selectors for dropping Shivarine Chanderpaul from the team for the current test series against Australia. We saw his cricketing days coming to an end and there is never an unemotional way of saying your time is up to our heroes and great sports persons. In 2013 MCG named Chanderpaul as a Caribbean Citizen of Note for his outstanding achievements and even then we figured that his last innings was approaching. Many will argue that he could have been given one more series to surpass the 87 runs needed to eclipse Brian Lara’s record for the most test runs scored by a West Indies player. However, that is not a solid reason for his retention in the test team. Sentimentally it sounds good but as Clive Lloyd has said, he had more than enough chances to better Lara.
