Buggery: Get Over It !

Image
One Caribbean Nation.  The Mahogany Coconut Group The decision by the government of Trinidad and Tobago, to make buggery a crime of the past, should be welcomed by all progressive Caribbean thinkers. Human sexuality and preferences, are difficult actions, to be controlled by the state. The fundamental right of adult and consenting citizens, to engage in the sexual acts of their choice, should never be the business of the state, unless they directly affect the lives of others. We note, that as was expected, the Christian and other religious communities, are opposing the debunking of the buggery law. As always, we respect the positions of our Christian and other religious groups. However, they would do well, to look inward at their organizations and deal with the many acts of immorality, such as the sexual abuse of children, in their assemblies. The Mahogany Coconut Group (MCG), has long maintained, that the opposition to male homosexual act, is the result, not only of b...

Bajan (Barbados) Saturday Recipe Pudding and Souse

Image
One Caribbean Nation. Pudding and Souse The dish Pudding and Souse is a traditional Saturday lunch for many Bajans. The souse is essentially pickled pork and the "pudding" is steamed sweet potato. Traditionally souse was made using the pig trotters (feet), ear, snout and tongue. Today, many people prefer to use lean pork meat instead. The pudding is traditionally served in a casing of pig intestines (similar to sausages) but this is optional. Every Bajan has their favourite dining spot to enjoy this delicacy, or has a "pudding and souse lady" from whom they order on a weekly basis. One of our favourite spots is the  Village Bar at Lemon Arbour . Recipe Souse 2 lb pork shoulder cut into 1 inch pieces, or the traditional ear, snout and tongue cut into bite-size pieces. One large onion, diced Two cucumbers, grated Scotch bonnet pepper (or chilli of your choice), finely diced Juice of 3 limes Chopped fresh parsley Boil the pork in s...

One Caribbean Nation. Jamaican gymnast astounds Toni-Ann Williams Jamaica's Toni-Ann Williams defied the odds to lead the University of California Berkeley to an upset win over the number-4 ranked Utah in what was a closely contested battle in collegiate gymnastics on Saturday. Competing with a bruised knee that was supposed to have kept her from contesting the floor routine for the second meet in a row, Williams landed an impressive dismount on the beam and then surprised everyone. “She landed her beam dismount and said 'Gosh, that felt good. Maybe I should do floor,” Coach Liz Crandall-Howell recounted. “She said it kind of tongue-in-cheek kidding...but then she wasn't really kidding.” The impressive beam routine had given the Jamaican Olympian a boost in confidence. I finished my beam routine and I was feeling good, so I joked that I could probably do a floor routine,” she said. “I had nothing to lose. I had a lot of trust in my training and it was the sam...

Black Panther Movie Reveals The Truth

One Caribbean Nation. The Black Panther reveal BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE COULD DISPEL ONE OF HISTORY’S GREATEST LIES Nok Scenes of daily life harvest mothers with children culture sculpture Terracotta before 6th cent BC Nigeria Africa. Image 1 of 2 NEXT IMAGE Black Panther, the blockbuster movie, imagines an advanced African nation untouched by colonialism. That’s not fiction, it’s true history that was covered-up by racist Europeans; therefore it could blow one of history’s greatest lies right out of the water. The movie creates the technically potent black African city state of Wakanda that has somehow evolved without being touched by colonialism. Fantasy, right? Well, yes, in its comic book inventions it is. But this misses the point about one of the most insidious effects of colonialism in Africa. The whole history of the continent has been rigged by Europeans to suggest that before the arrival of the white man Africans had been incapable of creating any semblance of m...
