This week,  Exxon Mobil  and  Hess  announced the successful drilling of a deepwater exploration well that may soon confirm that the seafloor beneath Guyana’s coastal waters contains one of the richest oil and  natural gas  discoveries in decades. Experts now estimate that one of its offshore fields alone, known as Liza, could contain 1.4 billion barrels of oil mixed with natural gas, comparable to some of the larger fields drilled in South America. FORMER Manchester United striker and Trinidad and Tobago sport ambassador Dwight Yorke was expected to arrive in Trinidad last night after being denied entry to the United States on Friday morning. He later travelled to the United Kingdom, then booked a flight directly to Trini­dad, where he was scheduled to arrive last night, a source close to the former professional footballer said. Yorke was barred from entering the US due to an Iranian stamp on his passport, where he travelled to participate in a ­charity match in Tehran in 2015. Iran was one of the seven “Muslim-­majority” countries listed in an executive order passed by US President Donald Trump, prohibiting entry to the US for 90 days. Also included in the ban were citizens from Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. The ban was eventually halted by a US federal court. Somehow we have convinced ourselves that it is the only tool and it must come in a defined format, which must never be changed. Education like any other national tool must undergo redefining and utilized strategically or it falls by the wayside like any other endeavour that is left to its own devices.  A recent photo of a top university administrator, bedecked in shoes and hand bag made from the black belly sheep skin, is perhaps the most exciting news coming from within the walls of UWI for some time. We recall about four decades ago, our craftsmen were taking the skin from cows and making belts.
