Region's Frailties Exposed; No Time for Fancy Letters and Photo ops.

One Caribbean Nation.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves

President Vladimir Putin

Once more global developments have grievously impacted on our region. Currently struggling to return to a state of normalcy, we are presently feeling the effects of President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. High gas prices are wreaking unforeseen havoc on our economies; any hope for economic improvement has been shattered.

Amid these very horrendous times, we still have regional leaders, deluding themselves that they can influence Putin and be major players, in halting the blood bath and chaos in Ukraine. While anybody with a modicum of humanity, will be gutted by the pain and suffering now inflicted on innocent Ukrainians, especially the children and senior citizens, those with an alert interest in global politics, would have known that such a tragedy was always possible.

We were embarrassingly stunned by a note or letter, written by Mr. Ralph Gonsalves, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to President Putin. The language clearly demonstrated that Gonsalves, who is a mere shadow of what we all thought he would have been, a couple of decades ago, was attempting and succeeded in portraying himself as a comedian. As expected, the poor communication joke had no effect on Putin’s ambitions.

The region is being given warnings, signs, and lessons, that we need to spend our valuable time swiftly moving toward one Caribbean Nation State. We therefore welcome the re-heating and efforts of the Barbados and Guyanese governments, to make a determined effort to share their countries’ resources. We need to lean on each other more, as we forge to leave the legacy of a vibrant and productive region for future generations.

COVID, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine; the real threat of a rapidly deteriorating environment and the continued dependency on flotillas and iron birds, bringing fun and sun seeking vacationers to our shores,  are simply showing us that the fragility of our socio-economic  fabric is under relentless stress.

Fancy letters to Putin and holding hands with Kamala Harris are photo ops, not progressive policies.
